Every day, BNSF Railway operates about 1,300 trains across a 32,500-mile network in 28 states and three Canadian provinces. More than 42,000 people operate this network, making an enormous contribution to the U.S. economy by moving the goods people need in their daily lives.

BNSF delivers goods in four main categories: agricultural products, consumer products, industrial products and coal.

In a typical year, BNSF hauls enough asphalt to lay a single lane road around the equator four times; more than 1 billion cans of canned goods; and enough newsprint to print 1 billion Sunday newspapers.

We invite you to explore this virtual train tour and learn more about how we do it. Please note that this is a general overview of the types of railcars we handle. It does not depict how our trains are typically structured.
